11:55 pm, December 31 officially brought on the harshest weather conditions I have ever braved for long periods of time. This pleasantly cool New Years' Eve we were sitting in an MVNU mob along the waterfront, downtown, waiting for the fireworks and at about five till midnight it started sprinkling very lightly. That wasn't so bad, except that we were sitting on the lowest stair of the amphitheater and the rain started sweeping the grit from higher steps into our faces. Yummy... So at five till midnight the rain picked up and weather dropped to 20-some degrees so that there was no hope of us viewing the fireworks without getting frostbite. We were pretty much decked out for the existing weather but we had no warning that we should bring along a light saber and a TonTon to slip into later. Ughggh. I am still shuddering, thinking of our run back across downtown in freezing rain with no gloves or hats. Alas, no fireworks for these frozen kiddos.
It is now the third and the weather hasn't changed much since that night. Today it is 15 degrees and "feels like 6 degrees", according to the weather channel. w00t... Hooray for Ohio.
On the first I picked up Kraig, Fiona and Luc from the Cincinnati airport and we got to spend a day and a half with them, which was a blast! Luc (who's 6 months) and Fiona are two of the sweetest, cheeriest people I've ever met and Kraig is...well, a humorously curmudgeon foil to them. Ah, old friends and their new families, what fun. :) We got a short taste of waking up to a baby's voice, shopping with a baby and eating out with a baby- all of which seem much more manageable when there are four people around to look after said baby and his accoutrements. Note to self: discover safe and agreeable method of cloning before having children.
By the way: "au resevoir" is a Robin Williams quote from Robots, not a typo.
